A common noun names any general person, place, or thing (lowercase). A proper noun names a specific person, place, or holiday and ALWAYS starts with a CAPITAL letter.
โ€ข girl (common) โž” Naina (proper)
โ€ข city (common) โž” Tracy (proper)
โ€ข teacher (common) โž” Mrs. Gore (proper)
โ€ข school (common) โž” Montessori School (proper)
๐Ÿงฉ Suffix Magic (-s, -ed, -ing)
A suffix is an ending added to a base word that changes its meaning or when it happened:
โ€ข -s / -es = More than one (job โž” jobs, chore โž” chores)
โ€ข -ed = Happened in the past (cook โž” cooked, play โž” played)
โ€ข -ing = Happening right now (work โž” working, read โž” reading)
๐Ÿ”  The 4 Big Capitalization Rules
Always use an uppercase capital letter for:
1. The very first word of every sentence.
2. Names of people and titles (Naina, Mrs. Gore).
3. Days of the week and months (Monday, September).
4. Cities, states, and holidays (Tracy, California).
๐Ÿ” Quick Evening Fix-It Drill: Can you spot the 4 lowercase mistakes?
โŒ "on monday naina and mrs. gore visited tracy."
โœ… Correct: "On Monday, Naina and Mrs. Gore visited Tracy."
